ABOUT US
Cambridge University Badminton Club was founded in the early 20th century by students at the University of Cambridge. Now, it is the University's official club for competitive badminton.
The Club consists of a Main Squad and a Development Squad. The Main Squad has about 45 players focused on competitive success. The Development Squad has about 24 players and trains once weekly under the direction of Main Squad coaches. We train for all the badminton disciplines: singles, doubles and mixed.
CUBaC competes in the BUCS league, with the men's team in Midlands 2B and the women's team in Midlands 1B. We also compete in the South Cambridgeshire League, where our men's and mixed teams both compete in the Premiership division.
The main event for the year is the annual Varsity Match against Oxford, where 5 teams compete for victory and Half Blues are awarded to first team players. The history of badminton's Varsity between Oxford and Cambridge dates back to 1928 and is the highlight of our players' calendars. It is the moment when players are united by a desire to beat Oxford and come out victorious!
As a reward for so much time spent together training, we organise a lively social calendar for our members. Highlights include Christmas Dinner, our 'Old Boys' alumni event and of course Varsity Dinner with Oxford.
CUBaC administers the inter-College badminton league, with 72 teams and about 400 players, and organises the annual Cuppers tournament between Colleges.
CUBaC is very grateful for the generous donations made by alumni, which will help to alleviate players' costs such as re-stringing rackets and membership fees.
